A plain glossary of cam site terms

Cam sites and the directories that index them have their own vocabulary, and most of it is never explained anywhere. These are the 20 terms that come up most often on CamsFinder and on the platforms it links to, defined in ordinary language and last reviewed on 3 September 2026. Two words this site deliberately avoids are at the bottom, with the reason.

Aggregator
A site that collects listings from other sites and presents them in one place. CamsFinder is an aggregator: it indexes rooms that live on cam platforms and links out to them, rather than broadcasting anything itself.
Cam platform
The site a performer actually broadcasts on. It runs the stream, the chat and the payments, and it holds the account. Twelve of them have CamsFinder listing and model pages.
Room
One performer broadcasting. A room can be public, where anyone can watch, or private, where a viewer pays for one to one time. The same performer can run a room on more than one platform.
Live status
Whether a performer is broadcasting at this moment. It is the field that goes stale fastest, so it is refreshed continually, and every count on this site is a snapshot rather than a running total.
Room subject
The line of text a performer types above their room to say what is happening or what they are working towards. Platforms publish it, so it travels with the listing.
Viewers
How many people the platform reports are watching a room right now. It is the usual sort order for a live grid, which is why the busiest platforms dominate an unsorted list.
Followers
How many accounts on a platform have subscribed to be told when a performer goes live. Unlike viewers, it accumulates, so it is a rough measure of an audience rather than of a moment.
Tags
Short labels a performer or a platform puts on a room to describe it. They are used as they are published, and they are what a tag page or a tag filter matches on.
Tip and tip goal
On free to watch platforms a viewer sends tokens to a performer. A tip goal is a target the performer sets for the session, and the progress towards it is often published alongside the room.
Private show
A paid one to one session. On some platforms this is the main way performers earn; on others most of the earning happens through tips in a public room.
HD
A flag on a room saying the platform is streaming it at high definition. It is published per room, so it can be filtered on.
Model page
A performer profile on CamsFinder, gathering pictures, information and links out to their room. Performers do not create these; the directory builds them from what the platforms publish.
Listing page
A category page on CamsFinder, such as girls on a given platform. These are the crawlable equivalents of a filtered search, one URL per combination.
Affiliate link
A link that carries a tracking identifier, so the platform can tell that a signup came from a given site and pay a commission for it. It is how the directory is funded, and it does not change the price a viewer pays.
18 U.S.C. 2257
The United States record keeping law for producers of sexually explicit material. CamsFinder states it is not the producer of the depictions on the site, and that it complies voluntarily anyway.
DMCA notice
A copyright takedown request under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. To be effective it needs a signature, an identification of the work, the exact URL, contact details and a good faith statement.
RTA label
Restricted to Adults, a meta tag that parental control software reads to filter adult sites. CamsFinder.com and this site both carry it.
Geo restriction
Blocking or hiding adult material based on the region a request comes from, because some countries and some US states require it. On CamsFinder it shows as a banner plus a blur, applied by region and not by account.
Widget
An embeddable unit that renders live rooms inside somebody else's page. The ones on this site are keyless demos; production embeds are available to CrakRevenue affiliates.
Whitelabel
A cam platform running on another platform's technology under its own brand. It matters to an index because two apparently separate sites can be showing the same rooms.

Two words this site avoids

Free and verified both do more work in cam site copy than they can carry. Neither is used loosely anywhere on this domain, and the two paragraphs below say exactly what each one does and does not mean here.

The first is "free". Most cam platforms are free to watch in the sense that a public room costs nothing to open, and not free in the sense that the performer is paid by tips or by private shows. Saying a site is free without that second half is how people end up surprised. CamsFinder itself is genuinely free, because there is nothing to buy on it.

The second is "verified". A performer's age is verified by the platform they broadcast on, not by a directory. CamsFinder's own About page puts it as models having verified their age with their respective platforms. Any directory claiming to have verified anyone itself is claiming something it is not in a position to do.

Most of these terms are used somewhere else on this domain. How it works is where live status, model pages and clicks are described in sequence, platforms is where the twelve cam platforms are listed, and trust and safety is where 2257, DMCA and geo restriction appear as published policy rather than as definitions.
